Creamy Orange Dreamsicle Ice Cream
Nothing beats the classic nostalgia of an orange creamsicle. This recipe combines bright, tangy citrus flavor with rich, velvety vanilla for a sweet treat that melts in your mouth. You don't need any special equipment or fancy techniques—just a few simple ingredients and a little bit of patience while it freezes.
Prep time & Servings
Prep time: 10 minutes
Chill/Freeze time: 4–6 hours
Servings: 6
Ingredients
1 cup heavy whipping cream, cold
1/2 cup sweetened condensed milk, cold
1/2 cup frozen orange juice concentrate, thawed
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
Optional garnish: Fresh orange slices or zest
Instructions
Whip the Cream: In a large, chilled mixing bowl, whip the cold heavy cream using a hand mixer or stand mixer on medium-high speed until stiff peaks form.
Combine the Sweet Base: In a separate medium bowl, whisk together the sweetened condensed milk, thawed orange juice concentrate, and vanilla extract until completely smooth and well blended.
Fold Gently: Take about a third of the whipped cream and gently fold it into the orange mixture to lighten it. Then, add the rest of the whipped cream and gently fold with a spatula until just combined. Be careful not to over-mix so you keep that light, airy texture!
Freeze: Transfer the mixture into a loaf pan or a freezer-safe container. Smooth the top with a spatula. Cover tightly with plastic wrap or a lid.
Serve & Enjoy: Freeze for at least 4 to 6 hours, or until firm enough to scoop. Serve immediately in bowls, garnished with a fresh slice of orange on top.
Chef's Tip: For a soft-serve texture, let the container sit at room temperature for about 5 to 10 minutes before scooping, or spoon it into a piping bag fitted with a large star tip right after mixing!
